Travelling to Cambridge is easy and cost effective

 
     

Stansted Airport is a major hub for low cost flights from across Europe, and it is less than half an hour by train from Cambridge. To see if you can fly to Stansted, have a look at the Easyjet and Ryanair websites. The trains and busses from Stansted to Cambridge run every hour, as do the buses.

 

 

Luton Airport is also used by Easyjet and Ryanair. Luton is 1 hour and 30 minutes from Cambridge by bus, but the buses only run every hour or two. You can find out about bus times here.

Heathrow Airport. If you are travelling from outside Europe (or you can't fly directly to Stansted or Luton), then aim for Heathrow Airport. From Heathrow there are regular buses to Cambridge. These take about two hours and details can be found here.

Otherwise you can go via London. Take the train or tube (metro) to London, do some sightseeing, and then when you are ready take one of the regular (every 30min) trains from either London Kings Cross or London Liverpool Street to Cambridge (journey time 1 hour).

Gatwick Airport is the least convenient airport. To get to Cambridge from Gatwick, travel to London and then take one of the regular trains to Cambridge from either London Kings Cross or London Liverpool Street. Otherwise you can take the bus, but it is slower.

London to Cambridge? If you are travelling through London, or want just visit, travel to and from Cambridge is very convenient. Express trains between Cambridge and Kings Cross leave every half-hour, and there are also express trains between Cambridge and Liverpool Street Station also leaving every half hour. In between these express trains, are other trains, but they usually take longer. The journey time is about one hour and open return tickets cost £26. International train travel to Cambridge is now easy and very convenient with the Eurostar. Trains run directly to St. Pancras stration. From St. Pancras it is a short 3-5 minutes walk to Kings Cross station, where there are regular trains direct to Cambridge. In order to plan a train trip to Cambrdige, have a look here.

Getting to Queens' College. As you can see from this map, Queens' College is conveniently situated on the River Cam, near the centre of Cambridge. Here is a map showing the location of the train station, it is about a mile outside Cambridge. The easiest way to make this journey is to get a taxi and ask for Queens' College, otherwise you can walk (30 mins). If you arrive by bus, you will arrive here, again you can either take a taxi or walk (10 mins).

Sightseeing around Cambridge? Cambridge is a small city, and much of the center is not easily accessible by car, thus the best mode of transport is walking.
